The first phase of the NEDO project focused on smart grids on the infrastructure of ELES and the distribution companies Elektro Celje and Elektro Maribor, while the second phase focused on smart cities and smart communities. The emphasis is on energy efficiency in urban communities and the use of battery storage. The NEDO project is a case of exemplary cooperation between Japan and Slovenia in the field of advanced economic development and green transformation.

»Kolektor Sisteh was already actively involved in planning the project, when the Hitachi company was looking for suitable polygons in Slovenia and partners from the Slovenian industry. We were pleased when Hitachi recognized Kolektor as a suitable partner in setting up complex solutions in the field of smart communities and electricity. We were even more pleased when ELES took over the leading role on the Slovenian part, as it enabled Slovenian industry to actively participate in this project.  Kolektor Sisteh and Kolektor Igin actively participated in the NEDO project in the first phase of the project in two distribution networks in eastern Slovenia, when we also included three Kolektor Etra OLTC transformers in the system,« said Stojan Kokošar, Director of Kolektor Sisteh.

In the second phase, Kolektor Sisteh played a key role in the installation of the battery storage in Idrija and its connection to the electricity system. »Furthermore, our company in Idrija set up a system for the control of electricity consumption on public infrastructure, which was then upgraded by Hitachi with its active consumption system. In the second phase, we set up a battery storage management system and associated infrastructure in BTC Ljubljana, and included them in the ELES management system. With these projects, we gained important experience and references in setting up voltage regulation systems, active consumption and large battery storage.  All of these system elements will be essential for a green energy transition to a carbon-free society. That is why all these references are a good basis for acquiring new business, and we also want to take advantage of the positive experience we have gained in cooperation with Japanese partners.«
